FireVR - The Pump Scan

This artwork is part of a four-part series which will each focus on one development milestone of FireVR (a student project of Klaus Scholtz and Matthias Picker). "FireVR" is the designation for a VR-Simulation which aims to facilitate the transition from theory to practice regarding the training and education of Firefighter students . It´s also meant to teach the correct handling of Fire Fighting Equipment.

In this chapter to the four-part series I show you briefly how I build an entire pump body from a photogrammetry scan. Roughly speaking, I had to first, take the scan from every possible angle from my desired object (which was the pump body). Next, I export the .glb file to Blender and start to polish the model that resulted from the scan. This means I most likely have to delete A LOT of faces to "clean" my model. When that is finally done, the polished pump model is exported to the software "InstaLOD". Only thing left to do is to utilize the "Remesh" feature and calibrate the intended polygon count target and hit "run" (this step is optional, if you do not intend to use the scan-model in, for example, a VR-Application).

If you have any questions about the content of this project, feel free to ask! :)
