This artwork is part of a four-part series which will each focus on one development milestone of FireVR. "FireVR" is the designation for a VR-Simulation which aims to facilitate the transition from theory to practice regarding the training and education of Firefighter students . It´s also meant to teach the correct handling of Fire Fighting Equipment.
This student project (Klaus Scholtz and Matthias Picker) was created in cooperation with the Munich School of Fire Fighting and Rescue Services (Münchener Feuerwehr- und Rettungsdienstschule) which is why the (training) hangar was modeled after the actual existing building.
Here, it was my job to model out a version of the existing training hanger (see first couple of pictures) in a fairly detailed manner (but with small practical changes, meaning from the first photos which were send to me, not every detail was clearly visible which is why the VR-version is different to the real version). In addition to that, I was also responsible for the lighting and textures in the scene. During development, we soon realized that the huge amount of objects and therefore polygons, would make it impossible to run the scene on any VR-Headset. This is the reason why the 3D-Environment was eventually turned into a ressource-efficient cubemap (look at the second video for insights).
If you have any questions about the content of this project, feel free to ask! :)
